The NOU is implementing a series of initiatives to raise public awareness, including launching and running official accounts on Facebook and Instagram social networks. From now on, you can check the daily forecasts of the UV index, as well as other news on the NOU activity, on those pages.
On June 10 2020, Ms. Liana Ghahramanyan, National Coordinator of the Ozone Program at the Ministry of Environment, spoke on the Public Radio about Armenia's efforts to restore the ozone layer. She was pleased to note that the work over the past years has not been in vain, and the restoration of the ozone layer was being observed. Ms. Ghahramanyan urged everyone to protect the ozone layer on the personal level.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 all over the world. As you know the ozone layer is one of the most important parts of the environment, which protects life on Earth from the sun's ultraviolet rays.
Did you know that ozone-depleting substances are still contained in abandoned refrigerators and air conditioners, gradually leaking out into the atmosphere and destroying the ozone layer? If your NGO is involved in the utilization of household appliances, especially refrigerators and air conditioners, then we are looking for you.
Summertime brings more time spent outdoors; hence we want to highlight once again the need to avoid harmful UV rays of the sun.
The event was aimed at ensuring the due implementation of program activities in the emergency situation.
We are pleased to inform that the handbook app«Ozone Treaties» developed by the UN Ozone Secretariat is already available in all six official UN languages.
On March 26, 2020 the President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Armen Sargsyan signed the RA Law «Օn Making Amendments to the Law «Օn Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer»».
The National Ozone Unit has been working remotely since March 16 2020 according to the declared emergency situation in the Republic of Armenia and the UN Implementing Agencies and Program Officers instructions, in line with the earlier COVID19 pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO). The REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE project has recently launched a FREE e-learning course completion certificate available to anyone who has completed all pages of all nine of the    e-learning modules. The e-learning modules cover fundamentals and safety related to low GWP refrigerants (flammables, carbon dioxide and ammonia).  The e-learning is available in 15 different languages. The Armenian version will be available for the third quarter of the current 2020.
