On June 17, 2023, within the framework of the tripartite cooperation memorandum signed between the Ministry of Environment, the State Revenue Committee (SRC), and the State University of Economics of Armenia on November 22, 2021, the National Ozone Focal Point of Armenia, Ms. Liana Ghahramanyan, met with the students of the "Customs Administration" master's program of the State University of Economics of Armenia, studying the "Green Customs" course.
Videos showcasing the smuggling incidents involving Ozone-Depleting Substances (ODSs) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) were presented to the students during the meeting.
Ms. Ghahramanyan conducted a hands-on practical demonstration of refrigerant analyses using a refrigerant analyzer. This demonstration highlighted one of the prevalent smuggling techniques known as mislabeling - disguising a prohibited refrigerant by placing it in a container with a different label.
Subsequently, the prospective customs officers were granted the opportunity to independently test the gas analyzer's functionality and performance.
The meeting concluded with the presentation made by students on the Montreal Protocol and the CITES under the leadership of SRC Chief Customs Inspector Lilit Ghazaryan. This presentation provided valuable insights into these international agreements and their significance in addressing environmental concerns.
