This year the events dedicated to World Ozone Day started on September 10, 2024, with a study tour organized for students to the «Amberd» Ozone-Measuring Meteorological Station of «Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center» SNCO of the Ministry of Environment of the RA.
Around 40 first-year students of the «Refrigeration Systems» Faculty of the Yerevan Regional State College No.2 named after N.Achemyan and Armavir Regional State College joined the visit.
In her conversation with the students, Ms. Liana Ghahramanyan, the National Ozone Focal Point, touched upon the «Refrigeration Systems» specialty and its importance. She discussed the connection between the ozone layer and the RAC sector, highlighting the need for protection from the harmful effects of UVB rays.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the participants were not able to make an ozonometric observation using the Dobson spectrophotometer, but the specialist described the procedure in detail.
Ms. Anahit Asatryan, the Head of the Heliogeophysics and Radiology Department of Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, spoke about the importance of the data received and processed into the international network, daily forecasts of UV Index (UVI) and the significance of its values.
In order to increase the level of public protection, daily forecasts of the UV Index (UVI) are published every working day on the NOU website and official Facebook page.
The events dedicated to World Ozone Day are carried out within the framework of the «Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building» Project jointly implemented by the Ministry of Environment and UNIDO.
