"Green Customs": Introductory Course for Customs Officers

On April 19, 2024, an introductory course on the "Green Customs" initiative was held at the State Revenue Committee's Training Center for about 20 customs officers, within the framework of the tripartite cooperation memorandum signed between the Ministry of Environment, the State Revenue Committee, and the Armenian State University of Economics on November 22, 2021.

During the meeting Tatevik Kirakosyan, National Focal Point of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); Liana Ghahramanyan, National Focal Point of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer; Anahit Alexandryan, National Focal Point of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, and Artak Khachatryan, National Focal Point the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal presented multilateral environmental agreements in the RA and their relevance to the customs sector.

Lilit Ghazaryan, Chief Customs Inspector of the State Revenue Committee, explained the importance of the "Green Customs" initiative and the applicability of environmental agreements in the context of smuggling to the participants.

The meeting concluded with a hands-on demonstration of refrigerant analysis using a refrigerant analyzer, showcasing how prohibited refrigerants can be circulated in containers with different markings. The participants, as future customs officers, were then given the opportunity to test the gas analyzer themselves.
