On September 2, 2025, within the framework of the “Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building” project implemented jointly with the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, a meeting entitled “Transit of Controlled Substances through the Territory of the Republic of Georgia” was held with the participation of Georgian colleges. The meeting was attended by entrepreneurs engaged in the import of controlled substances over the past three years and those who had submitted applications for an individual import quota for 2026 as of September 1 2025.
The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize participants with the procedures governing the transit of controlled substances through Georgia, including the required documentation, submission deadlines and techniques, as well as the competent authorities responsible for processing. The existing legal framework was presented remotely by Lasha Akhalaia, a representative of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia. Participants had the opportunity to raise questions and receive detailed clarifications.
A key takeaway for Armenian businesses was the confirmation that, under Georgian legislation, transit permits may be obtained in advance, enabling a faster and more efficient organization of transit shipments of controlled substances.
