EcOzone: Fridge Waste Art
24.08.2020

«EcՕzone: Frige Waste Art» exhibition dedicated to the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is organized jointly with the "For Equal Rights" Educational Center NGO within the framework of the «Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building» Project.

Out-of-service refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers and other refrigerant-containing appliances are hazardous waste. Improper recycling of this out-of-use equipment causes emission of gases that destroy ozone layer and are dangerous for public health and environment.

During the «EcOzone: Fridge Waste Art» interactive project-exhibition the aforementioned «representatives» of household equipment will be transformed into original art-objects.

The exhibition will also host a theme-based gallery of photos and collages.

«EcOzone: Fridge Waste Art» interactive project-exhibition will kick off on September 16, International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The official opening will take place in frames of Article 3 Human Rights Fest in October.

From the production of consumer goods, and during some production processes chlorine-bromine containing gases are emitted into the atmosphere, having a devastating effect on the country's ozone layer. Of these, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are used as refrigerants and as a propellant in refrigeration equipment, air conditioners, and aerosol cylinders. When released into the atmosphere, these gases decompose, releasing chlorine-bromine atoms, which damage the ozone layer.
