EVENTS DEDICATED TO THE INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY
A series of events were organized within the framework of the National Ozone Unit dedicated to 16 September, the International Ozone Day, the main objective of which was to raise public awareness and the coverage of the sector-related processes.
The events started with the quiz dedicated to the International Ozone Day which took place on the popular Radio Station «Radio Van» and the «Public Radio of Armenia» on September 14 and 17 accordingly.
Radio hosts presented the selected multiple choice questions prepared by the National Ozone Unit of Armenia. Listeners that provided the correct answers were awarded by the trip to the Ozone Measuring Station which was to be organized by the end of September by the National Ozone Unit.
National Coordinator for the Ozone Layer Issues, Liana Ghahramanyan, had a live interview with «Public Radio of Armenia». Ms. Ghahramanyan shared the achievements of the Republic of Armenia in the global efforts of preserving the ozone layer, underlined the current activity and the short- and long-term plans of the National Ozone Unit. Part of the talk was dedicated to the negative impact of the UV radiation, and the importance of protecting oneselves from it.
Representatives of the Hydrometeorology Service presented the Dobson spectrophotometer device, and on-site measurements were carried out by the Ozone-Measuring Station employee. The Head of the Helio-pharmacology and Atmospheric Studies Division of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Anna Tsarukyan presented the data processing techniques. Other equipment and their significance were also presented to the participants.
The visit also included a cultural component, which was expressed by visiting one of the fortresses of Armenia, Amberd.
